7 year old DS has smelly armpits.

Last night as DS was getting undressed I noticed he had really smelly armpits. He'd been at school all day and had probably played football for most of his break times and then played cricket and more football with DH in the garden after dinner.
He'd had a shower that morning and I'd showered with him so I know he was washed properly.

Does this mean he needs to start wearing deodorant? Or do we just need to be even more careful with hygiene?

Oh, I am nor sure, not sure when people normally get body odour really? Maybe it was the activities he did in the day.
Maybe someone else will know more sorry!

I've asked some of the other mums at school with DCs the same age but nobody was aware of their child having the same issue. The teacher said she was aware that it was very hot in the classroom yesterday and most of the boys don't bother to take their sweatshirts off, they just sit and sweat instead I guess. DS had a shower this morning and I'm pleased to say I didn't notice any smell when he got undressed for his bath tonight, despite an afternoon of football in the garden! A one off perhaps? He loves a shower and bath so I'll just encourage him to have one or the other at either end of the day for now and hold off the deodorant route.

My dd1 is 5.5, and has occasional whiffy armpits already...initially concerned about precocious puberty, but she has no other signs and there have been threads about it here where others have had similar problem, so have relaxed now

On hot days, especially on PE or sports days, I give her a natural deodarant stick to use in the mornings. It does the trick.

I think some kids just have glandular activity earlier - interestingly, all the LOs on similar threads I've seen so far have been girls, not sure why!

Weird coincidence - have just noticed that both DS1 and DS2 have whiffy armpits at bath time. But their school still has the heating on and they don't seem to encourage them to take their sweatshirts off (and DS2 is autistic and wouldn't realise the need to do so). I was surprised though - had assumed this wouldn't happen until puberty or just before.

DS1 is 8 and has had stinky pits for a while.
He showers daily and has a clean shirt each day
We did use 'pit-roc' for a bit but I think good hygeine is more effective.
He is also very hairy so expect early puberty

Hmm - DS2(6) is hairy too. I've got a feeling that autism and early puberty often go together - hope not...
