Hello,

My 2 year old has had a strange rash since Saturday night! Noticed that his cheeks were very red at bedtime, then the next day his cheeks again very red and a little bit rashy on his shoulders. Yesdterday he had blotchy rash on cheeks, part of arm and part of back. Last night he kept waking up and scratching his ear which is rashy this morning! However cheeks are going down and back to normal, but his arms, legs and bottom are now covered! It is red, blotchy, slightly joined up in patches (not pin prick) and doesn't seem to generally be worrying him. His temperature is normal, he is eating like a horse, cheerful and lively so doesn't seem to be anything sinister. Would an allergy rash last this long? (checked all usual suspects..change in diet, soaps etc), or does it sound like a viral thing? Any advice or clues?

Sounds more like a virus.

As long as he feels well in himself, doesn't have temperature etc it should be fine.

Sounds exactly like the rash DS2 had a few weeks ago, which disappeared after about 10 days.

Get it checked with gp - might be slapped cheek in which case it's highly infectious.
Could easily be viral but not worth going on hol without geting it checked beforehand IMO - better to know now rather than need to find out when you're on hol.
Hope he's better soon.
