I think the DDs are coming down with Chicken Pox. They are SO GRUMPY. Please talk me through it!

It's 11 days since DD1 (2.5yrs) and DD2 (10mnths) were in contact with a friend's baby who has Chicken Pox. They've been utterly miserable all week and it's getting worse. They are both tired, a bit feverish, difficult to please, off food to varying degrees and oh so grumpy. DD2 has been sick a couple of times over the weekend. But no spots yet...

Please tell me if this is normal! I can cope with the symptoms but am finding it really hard work to keep my normally happy bunnies happy. Am close to tears myself.

How did chicken pox affect your DC?

I do remember my two being v grumpy and sort of coldy just before going down with chicken pox, but you won't really know till the spots. The first couple of days, and the itchy spots, are pretty bad. Please use Piriton though, as that gave my two such enormous relief, combined with calpol. EVERYONE will tell you about bicarb of soda baths (ok, a little helpful) or calomine lotion (totally useless imho) but piriton is actually for the relief of itchiness in CP, and with that, plus calpol/nurofen, particuarly before bed, we got through it ok!Good luck!

I used an anti-itch cream instead of calamine (I think it was called Eurax or something like that) - really seemed to help.

But definitely Piriton as well.

Thanks for the advice re Piriton & Eurax- will get some in readiness.
Glad to know that the grumpiness is normal too.
