Sorry, question about toddler poo

DS is 21 months and a good weight. No idea what weight, but not skinny. A chunky wee fellow.

He also eats well and seems healthy, although he has spells of very interrupted and restless sleep and he has a tendency to be windy and sore.

His poo, however, is generally very soft, sticky, orangey and stinks particularly badly. Maybe a couple of times a week it is formed but more often than not it's gooey. I can't seem to find an obvious cause, but as it happens so frequently I guess it could be something quite ubiquitous in his diet like wheat or dairy.

I haven't gone so far as to cut this stuff out yet because I went through the mill trying to give stuff up while BFing exclusively in case that was the cause of his pain and wind - obviously it couldn't have been but I was so desperate I tried everything and anything.

So, basically I am wondering if this sounds like normal pooeyness or something not quite right. His wind is much less of a problem now, but he does have some nights when he struggles and beans and lentils are banned after 2pm!

I once saw my baby pooing between nappies and it came out perfectly formed (sorry if TMI). Since then I have been convinced they all do but end up gooey due to general toddler activity - rolling on the floor, sliding down the slide etc. I wouldn't eliminate anything from his diet before seeking advice from GP/HV first.
