Nappy rash - what does it look like

I'm sure this is a stupid question, but what does nappy rash look like? DD (14 weeks) had a bit of her rash around her lady bits, doesn't seem sore or to be bothering her. I looked up nappy rash on Google and wish I hadn't bothered.

What does it look like?

lobsters · 23/04/2009 21:23

Bit red all over with little spots probably best description, it's only in the front of her bits, not on her bottom.

What colour are the spots? Does it look 'wet'?
Could be thrush?

Spots are red, very small, slightly raised. Not sure what thrush looks like either. Can't really say if it looks wet, I spotted it when I got her out of the bath this evening and did a nappy change. Had done several nappy changes early and not spotted anything.

It's hard to say on here as I can't see it. I'd pop to the GP or ask the HV to have a look, especially as it came on so quickly. It may be thrush so would require some cream.

Thanks, if it's still there in the morning I'll take her down. I tried looking for pics of nappy rash through google to give me an idea of what to look for, but they just came up with pictures of really extreme nappy rash that were really unpleasant.

hold on.

Right, nappy rash should be little pink/red spots, the skin should be shiny, it should be on the area where the nappy is and around the anal area. They look alot like teenage acne but the spots are more squashed together. Thrush should look more red and 'angry'. Your baby would be grumpy as it can be sore. There may be spots inside your baby's mouth which resemble milk curds. In all honesty it does look alot like nappy rash so I would get the HV/GP to have a look.

I hope all is OK.

That's great, many thanks, I think it must be caused by wee rather than poo so at the front. I'll see how it looks at the middle of the night feed and again in the morning, at the moment she's sound asleep.

Some babies just get this. It isn't anything you are doing, it's one of those things. I used zinc and caster oil when ds had this. It worked alot better then sudocrem.
