Help!
Got back from Cornwall just before Easter sunday. DS constipated when we returned (and this is a common theme, he does seem to get constipated when we come home from Cornwall - maybe the water?). Anyway - he had the evident leakage (kind of grainy, loose smeary movements).
He is on a daily lactulose dose, but only very small (i.e. 5 - 10ml). With some attention (i.e. prunes and ribena) he had a massive poo. Then about 3 days of normality.
For the last 4 days though he has had at least 3 accidents a day, with very loose but not watery poos. He genuinely seems unable to control this - we had pretty much cracked potty training, but now back in pull-ups. Today he had 2 accidents and 1 massive hideous diarrhoea-y poo in the potty (which was positive because at least he had sensation that poo was coming). His stools are more than soft, almost to liquid (but not watery if you see what I mean). His tummy was quite bloated, but less so now.
My dilemma is what to do next? Does this sound like a follow-on to the constipation? Or maybe a bug? He is well in himself, happy. Still v. fussy about food (but that is old news). Perky actually. Tomorrow is supposed to go to pre-school, and wants to go. But I don't want to spread a bug, while at the same time if this is toddler diarrhoea I don't want to pretty much permanently remove him from pre-school! I am not sure what advice the GP will give if we go?
Sorry this is so long, but I really am completely confused about the whole thing now. I don't know what is going on. He is a good weight, healthy generally, happy (albeit with food issues). Flummoxed I am. Perplexed.....
Any advice would be hugely appreciated.
