DS had a circumsision on tues (at docs recommendation) and didn't fully stop bleeding till next morning. Because doc was so bothered it was his first drop of blood in 40 years he requested blood tests to see if problem with blood clotting. Didn't expect there to be aproblem cos I din't think it bled that much. Nurse agreed and thought it looked worse cos he'd weed aswell.

Anyway, doc has just rung to say came back that he has low platelets and need to return to hospital for more bloods on tues.

Have looked up on web and got myself very worried about what it coulb be. He is otherwise health and op hasn't stopped him running around as usual! He was back to normal self when he woke up and all obs were good.

Can anyone throw any light?

the most common casue in kids is ITP or idiopathic thrombocytopaenic purpura

some info here

by the way the platelet ranges are different, so in this artivle when they say can be as low as 10,000 - they mean 10 in our ranges

good luck hope you get some answers soon

Thanks for that luva, I had read about that, but ds doesn't have any of the other symptoms, and he is always banging himself, so you'd think he would bruise, but he doesn't
