Hi can you help?

two weeks ago DD came down with cold and was vomitting and runny nappies, cleared up after a few days only to come back with a vengence on good friday - high temperature listless miserable, bad cough lots of mucus in vomit (where she has been swallowing from her runny nose)
went to the emergency doc on monday as still no better and they referred us to a&e peadetrician who said is was tonsilitis and ear infection - both viruses so no medication other than pain relief.

now friday, still bad cough still mucus and still vomiting - this time this morning and it looks like everything she had to eat yesterday - undigested.

just been sick again - the water I gave her and yet more mucus.

got docs appointment at 11 but fear i may get fobbed off again.....

her ear ache is better and i think so is are her tonsils but the cough is still there.

any ideas? she is clearly hungry but what can i give her that wont make the vomiting worse or mucus worse - the peadtrician said i should give her lots of cold yoghurts for her tonsils but i said but i thought dairy made more mucus - that's whats making her vomit so often?

she has lost so much weight already you can see her ribs.

vomiting is distressing her (and me) no-end, she cries and cries. I reassure her and try to calm her obviously.

any ideas?

please?

Hi there
My ds was in a similar situation a few weeks ago - he had been a bit off his food for a while but seemed ok in himself, then progressed to vomiting up whole 8oz bottles and had cold sweats and slept loads. I was really worried but we just drip fed him water and half strength milk til he got a bit better. We were advised not to give solids. He was also vomiting up stuff that he had eaten 24 hours previous! I took him to docs but he didn't seem that bothered! He is quite a chubby baby but you could see the weight falling off as he just would not tolerate anything. If she has really lost that much weight I would take her to a doctor asap, and in the mean time just keep the fluids up if you can.
How old is she by the way? If she is under 12 months and you take her to A&E again, I think they are obliged to assess all babies before they are allowed home.
Hope that helps a bit.

PS How did you get on at the doctors?

Hello pinkcorsage, thanks for answering and sorry only just been able to log back on.

dd was sick again before we left the house and then in the car outside the doctors, and yes like your ds it was undigested food that she had had the day before...its been going on for over two weeks.

the doctor was good with her which helped, and he prescribed anti-biotics saying he was surprised that we had not been prescribed them before....so i reminded him that the consultant had said it was a virus. i did not give her the anti-biotics as he said they would give her very bad runny nappies - cant risk this i think on top of the vomiting. happily she has not been sick since friday.

she has been good about drinking water, - partly i suspect as its cooling on her throat, so she has not been dehydrated.

she is nearly 2 and now only 23lbs - skin and bones...very tired and teary.

Just giving her little and often and hoping her appetite will pick up.

hope your DS now fully recovered.
