Croup at 8?

Looking in my book it is more common in younger children. Could it be anything else?

He has had a sore throat for a couple of days and we were up at 2.30 with him this morning. Me being panicky mum rang NHS Direct as his cough sounded awful and he said it hurt to breathe. We gave him some ice cream to soothe his throat (which is wrong apparently) and put the vapouriser on.

He is up watching tv and can talk but the cough sounds so painful.

It could be croup - though croup is worse at night. Did NHS Direct listen to his cough? My DS is nearly 6 and still gets croup but you're right - it's worse when they're younger. If NHS had been worried they'd have told you to go to A+E for steroids.

Good luck. Hope he's better soon.

Yes, they listened to him.

He is still coughing today.

Hope we all get some sleep tonight.

Wasn't croup.

He has an upper respiratory infection and laryngitis.
