we are going to stay with friends at the weekend and one of their little ones has chicken pox. We have all had it including DD (aged 2) who had it last year.

Am I right to assume that you cannot get it twice? and

Am I right to assume that you cannot get shingles from someone with chicken pox?

some people do get it more than once but they are in the minority. You cant get shingles from chicken pox but there is a chance of getting chicken pox from shingles. Shingles is a reactivation of the chicken pox virus that has lain dormant in the nerves i.e. you can only get shingles if you have had chicken pox in the past.

thanks very much - I will keep our fingers crossed on not being in the minority that gets it again !- am hoping that by the weekend most of their spots will have crusted up (delightful!)
