7 week old has cough and cold - any treatment?

My 7wo started with a cold yesterday and last night he was really struggling with it. His nose isnt actually running but he sneezes frequently and rattles with mucous in his throat, plus he is coughing.

I raised the end of the moses basket which seemed to help a bit but is there anything else I can do? Is there anything the doctor can do that I can't and when should I take him to see the doctor? (don't want to be all PFB about it but DS sounds so miserable and is doing snuffly breathing on and off, so don't want it to settle on his lungs).

Run a hot bath with the bathroom door shut and make lots of steam - take him in the bathroom for 10 mins. This might help a bit.

I would also say just take him to the doctor if you are concerned. I'm sure they get pfb parents going for much less of a reason. In fact I know they do because I took mine with what was really an imagined concern when she was a few weeks old.

DD2 is now 7 weeks but at 5 weeks caught her first cold. It's awful, so little you can do to help them. As RB suggested steam is helpful. We bought a steamer when DD1 was small and have used it over and over - might be a wise investment.

this but ours is an older model.

Thanks McDreamy, that looks great & worth a try.

Rang the docs, they said to bring him in to be on safe side.
