my dd is 8 years old and has 4 0r 5 dental abscesses in her mouth.
She has to have her back teeth removed under a General.
The 1st abscess was noticed 2 years ago, over rge course of about 18mnths, courses of antibiotics were prescribed time and again.

Anyway, in the last 6 months, things have got worse.
She now has 4 or 5, has had 5 courses of antibiotics and is taking paracetamol every day. She cant eat a full meal and her sleep is even more disturbed because of the pain(she never sleeps anyway due to excema!)
I have had regular appointments with her dentist who have referred her to the hospital, we have seen the dentist who owns the practise, who has pulled some strings and pushed for an appt ment quicker, we have been to emergency dental hospitals, who have given antibiotics (at 8pm on a sunday night when there are no chemists open!) and have pushed and pushed for ealier appts.
Eventually got a cancellation 4 weeks ago to what I thought was the consultation before the surgery and thier advise was "yes, will need to have those teeth removed, I will refer you to the hospital, the wait is about 5 months."
If the wait is 5 months, then I was referred 4 months ago by my OWN dentist. Im so lost now....I dont know who ive seen and what Im waiting for. Im trying to phone people and clinics but they work such short hours (2 - 3.50 on Tuesdays!!!) or no one ever answers or people say they will get back to me and never do.
What can I do to help my DD?
Ive even asked if there is anything I can do to have the treatment at a private clinic ....no one got back to me about it.
Im so cross with this service

Your poor DD and poor you. there is nothing worse than seeing them in pain and not being able to do anything about it.

If you are serious about private then speak to your GP/dentist for details.

As for the referral. Find out which dr and department at the hospital you are being referred to. Then phone every day, be nice, stay patient, cry if you have to. Eventually you will find someone that knows what they are doing and you can find out whats happening. Tell them you will take any cancellation they can give you, even at short notice, always have your mobile on and be ready.

Your DD shouldn't be a number or a file but I'm afraid she is and the waiting to unfair.

Hang in there, I hope you get it sorted soon.
