Cough and high temp

DD with a history of febrile convulsions has had high temp with episodes of feeling fine one min and then droopy next since Fri. Thankfully no convulsions. Went to docs Fri-no sign of infection. But home again from nursery today-high temps, droopiness and cough. doing ok now, just chilling on sofa. Would you take her back to the doc. temps only subside with calpol and ibuprofen.

My DD goes through sessions like this. The cough usually lasts a couple of weaks and she has a high temp for 3-5 days (usually over 100, has been up to 102) Have taken her to the GP and they always say virus, no chest infection, keep the temp down with mix of calpol and ibroprufen. Unless anything else develops I'm inclined to not bother with teh Gp - I think she's more likely to catch something worse in teh waiting room! Hope your LO is better soon.

Yeah you are prob right. I think i panic due to the febrile convulsions, but suppose its good that her temp has been 39 and not had any, so maybe she is growing out them

there is a faint rash as well I have just noticed.

again it's quite common to have a rash with a virus and/or high temp. Check it with a glass to put your mind at rest, and if there are any further changes, then probably best back to the docs.

Musukebba · 23/03/2009 17:34

Can I ask where the rash is and is there any sign of conjunctivitis..? How old is she?

mummynumnum · 24/03/2009 06:57

She is nearly three. rash gone,. but coughed and hacked all night, so think will go to docs again.

Still bit of cough. And high temps on and off. This started last Thurs eve. Spoke to doc on phone but said prob just a virus.

Hmm?? Worried still

Sorry to hear that she is still poorly. As i said before my DD does exactly the same thing, usually about every 3 months or so. I keep an eye on teh temp and give calpol/ibrofen when necessary. Make sure she drinks lots. I don't worry much about food - just tempt her with what she fancies rather than 'healthy' stuff. Ice cream is usually quite popular!

Thats it-day 7 off high temps and still coughing heaps-despite my dh protestations that it is just a virus-I am going back to the docs. Right choice
