Scarlet Fever can anyone help?

I suspect DD has Scarlet fever even though i did take her to the doctors on friday and they said they think it's viral.

DD has a really blotchy red rash all over her body looks a bit sunburnt in plaaces especially on her face.

She has no signs of being ill though like sore throat etc the main parts affected are her stomach, back arms and face and bottom not much on the legs feet .

If it was scarlet fever does she need anything to treat it? should i be trying to get a doctor tomorrow or can it wait till monday?

am slightly concered about how bad it has actually got, it started very faint on thursday bit worse on friday (then went to docs) & today it is quite a bright red blotchy like rash all over.

Any advice much appriciated.

If she's not ill I'm not sure it can be SF

I don't know but think it is usually v sore throat as well as rash iyswim

also temp

If she is fine then I doubt it's that.

DaisyMooSteiner · 21/03/2009 20:47

Does she have a fever/swollen glands/white coating on her tongue/any other symptoms at all, or is it just the rash?

Tiggiwinkle · 21/03/2009 20:50

Is the rash rough to the touch? Scarlet fever rash feels like sandpaper. Does she have either a white coated tongue or a bright red tongue with darker bits showing through?

You usually feel quite unwell with scarlet fever-high temp and there is sometimes vomiting too.

If it is SF she will definitely need antibiotics.

ScoobyDoo · 21/03/2009 20:52

It is quite ruff to touch and little raised.

No sore thoat yet but i just read somewhere about the tongue looking like a strawberry & hers does, her glands were slightly swollen & still are but she has nothing else, no temp.

What else can this rash be? i am quite concerned about it now.

I will try to find a picture of what it's like..

I would try and get her seen tomorrow-do you have an out of hours?

ABs are vital for SF because untreated it can lead to serious complications such as rheumatic fever and kidney problems.

Bits across her stomach look like this the middle picture on the right

Could well be. As I said I would get her seen tomorrow. If necessary take her to A&E-that's what I did when my DS had it and it was a weekend.

They do take SF seriously-it is still a notifiable disease and needs treating because of the complications.

Ok thanks i think i will give the out of hours a call tomorrow & see what they think, also they have scarlet fever and slap cheek going round her nursery so it is likely she could have caught it.

Stewie do you think i should call the docs tonight then?

She is not really itching either, but the rash has spread and got alot darker, especially round her bottom and on her sides & her face is very red.

Ok thanks will call them now.

Just had another look at some of it is just literally unde the skin and blotchy her cheeks are very red though.

Rashes are the worst cause it's so hard to know what it actually is.

Thank you for all the advice.
