Phenegan - ok for 14 month old?

My DS is suffering very badly with chickenpox - he looks so bad there are 1000s of spots. He has been screaming constantly and is very unhappy. The GP prescribed phenegan to help him sleep but it says for over 2's on bottle and he is not. Also can you take it with anything else such as Calpol? Thanks

Did your GP or pharmasist not ask how old the child was?

Nabster · 20/03/2009 20:35

Does it say for over twos unless prescribed by a GP?

Have you tried piriton over the counter - that is suitable from 1 year. But Piriton and phernagen should not be taken together.

no just has dosages and it starts at 2-5 years.

How old is your ds?

Nabster · 20/03/2009 20:46

I would be very tempted to complain. Prescribing drugs that aren't suitable after an unsatisfactory examination. I dread to think what could happen if he did it again and the person didn't check.

www.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/100002055 think this link might help - it is to net doctor. Or ring nhs direct and double check? 08454647 (England, diff number for Scotland I think, not sure for Wales/NI)

stressed2007 · 20/03/2009 20:52

thanks all - will check before I give. Just preparing myself for another sleepless night and don't want to make it worse by giving something that might be dangerous.
