Can we talk about poo please ?

Apologies for the unpleasant subject matter but dd is 22 months and had never done a solid poo. Its always quite sloppy and the firmest she ever has is sort of cow pat consistency.

Is this normal ??

She also has really bad nappy rash at the moment. I have tried sudocrem and bepanthen but its still really bad. Any suggestions as to what else I can try please ?

She still slops for England and is 2.7

TBH she does more sloppy ones than firm ones

As a young toddler NEVER did a firm poo... I just thought she had good digestion

God knows what it'll be like when she potty trains [fearful]

Its the potty training I'm concerned about as well. I was hoping to maybe start in the summer but don't fancy clearing these ones out of a potty

She does drink loads of water and has about 4-5 poos a day.

Could she be dairy intolerant?

Might be worth cutting out dairy for a week or two and seeing if things improve?

If it's any consolation dd2 has slowed down a bit and is down to 1 poo a day

I'm waiting for dd2 to tell me she's ready to train. She's 3 in August so probably we'll be doing it during the Summertime... less clothes to get off and reduced likelihood of fresh cow-pat pants

I really hope she's not dairy intolerent - she doesn't eat meat or much fish so I'd really struggle to get protein into her if she didn't have cheese/yoghurts/milk etc. Would there not be other symptoms ?

it's probably just normal for her ds2 mostly does cow pats I wouldn't cut out dairy
could be toddler diarrhoea as for the potty training could you not just use the toilet straight away that is what I did with ds1

Sorry, the dairy thing was just a thought. Ds1 (who seems to be dairy intolerant) had this problem - lots of sloppy poo every day, really strong smelling. I cut out dairy (a real PITA because it was a major part of his limited diet) and he went down to one poo a day of a much firmer consistency. Then if he accidentally (or otherwise) had a bit of dairy in his diet his poo would revert. He finally seems to be growing out of it although even the smallest piece of cheese still has awful effects.

Don't apologise - you could be right (but I hope you aren't iyswim ). Did your ds have any other symptoms or just the poo thing ?

Thanks for the link about toddler diarrhoea andiem - that rings bells - many a piece of sweetcorn/carrot to be found amongst the slop

No real other symptoms (except not really putting on weight). He also had horrible skin, but that seems to be related to tomato consumption not milk. Another MNer I know in RL suggested eliminating dairy products for a while and I gave it a try. I figured anything was worth a go. I think he was about 18 months old at the time - may have been slightly older.

I didn't bother seeing my GP about it - he's very scathing about food intolerances.

My DD (now 3 had toddler diarrhoea (confimed by a paed) for about 18 months. Sometimes up to 7-8 sloppy (porridge type consistency with undigested food in) per day- sorry I know TMI but unfortunatley it is a topic that lends itself....!
We tried dairy free diet for about a year- did improve at first but then got much worse again. Saw paed at about 2.4 yrs of age as her bottom was was red raw and skin bleeding. He insisted we try potty training which was fine for wees but delt with many pairs of pooey pants for months (again far TMI - sorry)
In the end we scrapped dairy free diet as I found somehting on internet that suggest the 4 'F's when it comeas to toddler diarrhoea- Fats- make sure they have enough
Fruit Juice- avoid- epecially apple juice- disatsterous consequences!
Fibre- again make sure enough- to 'bind' everything together
can't remeber 4th F (!!) probebly something to do with fruit- ie again avoid too much -even dried fruit (luckily DD likes veg).

PS DD was tested by Paed for lactose inolerance coeliac disease etc and several others- all negative
