Conjunctivitis

My little boy has woken up with a yellow gunk sticking his eye shut and its very pink and blood shot.

This looks like conjunctivitis and I'm going to take him to the doctors at the 1st available appointment but is it contagious? From memory I'm sure it is, just so I can inform his nursery he won't be going

Hi I think there's two different types one is contagious. I couldn't really get my head around it personally. Anyway regardless of that, the nursery wouldn't let my DS attend until it was cleared up. Hope your DS feels better soon

Yes it is contagious and will generally spread to the other eye, i was told to treat both eyes at the same time even though only one was infected at the time. Also remember to use seperate towels and flannels.

We had it last week and the doctor gave ds eye drops and said he was fine to go to nursery. Nursery were fine with that too. I think it may depend on whether it's viral or bacterial, although I'm not sure the doctor can tell that just by looking.
