Are bright red eyes always conjunctivitis?

DD has a cold and a cough and sore throat, generally unwell. Now the whites of her eyes are bright red - but she says they don't hurt, there's no gunk or anything - is it possible to just be a sign of being run down, or does it sound like conjunctivitis? Just wondering if I'll need to take her to gp and if it's contagious.

It does sound like an eye infection to me. DD has had red eyes before with no obvious itching but the doc said they were infected and he gave us some drops. Perhaps take her to the docs?

Thanks BlueBum. Will get her checked out.

Likely to be viral conjunctivitis.

No gunk
Otherwise 'virally' with cough and cold
Not particularly painful

If it is then it is contagious but drops won't help. Good hygiene, not sharing towels or flannels and cleaning eyes regularly with cooled boiled water and cotton wool.

Your GP will be able to tell you more.

Hope she is feeling better soon,

Thank you - you're exactly right, that's what gp said, he recommended bathing eyes with black tea.

Black Tea? Really? How does that work then?

Glad you got an answer though - hope DD feels better soonest.
