screaming when pooing for 6 weeks now - 8 month DS

Hi,

My DS has been sucking in his breath and screaming when he is pooing. They are not hard poos, nor very runny, just normal poos. He is not constipated, goes 2 times a day and does not have a nappy rash.
There is no blood in them. he eats plenty of veg and fruit and is well hydrated.

I mentioned this to the HV after 2 weeks and she helpfully said not to 'make a fuss', that 'he will get an equity card out of pooing' and that'it does hurt them you know', when i can (and anyone else who is around can) plainly see that he is in pain.

He goes for his check in 2 weeks and think i will wait until then when he sees the paediatrician, but am so angry with the HV for making me feel like i am a neurotic mother.
Has anyone else had this problem with their baby?

Yes. She goes bright red too. Really cries or screams but the poo comes out mushy -Sorry! I think its cause so much tries to get out all at once and her little bum cant cope. she never has nappy rash and shes 13months old. Shes been like this since she was bout 5 months old. Theres nothing you can really do as he isnt constipated. And you say he gets plenty of nutritien. I again woulnt worry too much, just rub his back and tum when hes going. Give him lots of encouragement to poo.

My dd (18m) was the same - started around 10 months and carried on until I started giving her prune juice at breakfast - not much, just an inch or so. (sorry, crap measurement!) which has stopped it. Same problem - not constipated, lots of fibre and fruit, normal texture etc but her poos were just huge - the size of her arm and her poor bum was just too small. There was a bit of blood sometimes so I think she split inside sometimes. Awful and distressing all round. Esp for us "neurotic" mothers

Would love to hear anyone elses suggestions as I'm not sure keeping her on prune juice til she's a teenager is really practical. Plus I'm waiting for the day when she refuses it and we're back to screaming.

Bloody health visitors. Like to see her pooing the equivalent.

Actually I wouldn't like to SEE the HV pooing.

Prune juice every time
Seriously though, it does work. They do grow out of it eventually. HV was out of order being so patronizing imo. Probably good to see gp to set your mind at rest as well. You won't have to wait 2 weeks to see him/her if you say you're concerned.
