Just had a call from GP concerning ds scan results

Hi i posted on here last week about my 2 yo ds who had blood in his urine and was sent for an ultrasound scan. The radiologist at the time said that there was inflammation on his right kidney and that it was probably caused by an infection and that it was nothing to worry about, so i was feeling releived until my gp called today to say that he'd spoken to the paediatrician regarding the scan results and that they had decided that they would like to see him at the clinic and that they may want to do another scan in a couple of weeks to check that the inflammation is healing. Also in the report it said that there was no sight of any mass or stones.

Now i'm back to square one again and really worried about it, why can't they just leave it and do urine tests to make sure that there is no blood present in his urine. I was in such a state before the last scan, i can't bear going through that again. Seemingly it will be a kidney doctor that we will be seeing. Anyone else been through this with their kids?

sounds as if they are doing all the right things, being very careful to ensure your ds is getting better. But of course it will make you anxious. Try to focus on the fact that he is getting good care and they are doing their best for him.

(You could always phone the GP back and ask why they can't just do urine tests - in a friendly, non-confrontational way. Am sure GP would be happy to explain.)

Hiya,

my ds has nephrotic syndrome where his kidneys are leaking protein into his urine. We went through a scan and biopsy to find that he had scarring on his kidneys and that basicaly his body is rejecting his kidneys.
I think they can probably see better with a scan than they can tell anything through urine tests where things are inflamed.
ds also had blood in his ring a couple of years ago (a year before this was all diagnosed) but nothing was ever followed up which if it had ds would have been diagnosed a year earlier than he was.
We'll always worry about our children but I would be pleased they want to be thorough to check things out

Hi edam, i di ask the gp why they could'nt just keep a check on his urine and he said that they might do that, i'm just so nervous about the scan even though the report said that there was no mass i still worry incase the radiologist got that wrong! I have health anxiety and worry terribly.

Whoops, how is your son now? what are they doing about his condition? and sorry another question, what was the biopsy for? My ds is onlt 2yo i don't want him to have to go through horrible tests, i'm so scared for him.

ds is fine, he is on medication to try and reduce the protein leak, it has been reducing but is still high. they see him monthly at the moment to check levels of his medication and see how he is doing.
The biopsy was to see what was going on with his kidneys as nothing certain showed up on the scans, I think something like dark patches showed up but nothing that they could diagnose from. ds was fine while having the biopsy he was under ga and had to lie still for 6 hours after! he is 7 so wasn't an easy thing!! but he didn't complain of being sore once.
Like they say it could probably just have been from an infection but as a mother you always think the worst I think

Hi,i know that it only makes sense to follow things up to make sure that the inflammation goes away but of course i worry as its in my nature and having health anxiety does'nt help at all. The only thing that is stopping me from panicking is that the report from the radiologist says that there is no sign of any mass which was my main concern. Were the doctors concerned about tumours with your ds? Was that the main reason for the biopsy?

My ds is fine in himself and has had no more blood in his urine over the last 2 weeks so hopefully thats a good sign.

No I don't think they were worried about tumours, the biopsy was to determine the reason for the protein leak.

hi whoops just wondering if you ever found out why your ds got nephrotic syndrome? And also whether your ds ever had inflammation on his kidneys.

sorry again for all the questions.

Hi, we were told it is just one of those things and i don't think he did have any inflammation on his kidneys, I think they were just a smaller size or something than they should have been
