sorry typing one handed...

DS 2.9 been ill for about 7 days - running a fever for the last 4, complaining of light and his eye membranes are extremely red. Very heavy cold symptoms. Sore throat, real gutteral cough. He had minor diorrhea (sp) over the weekend and now this morning he's come out with a rash - red spots but flat - all over his face, neck and chest - he also when he's crying a little lump is sticking out on the side of his neck. And he wants to be hugged but won't let me directly touch his skin. His temperature is actually considerably lower today so maybe it's just a post-viral rash, but doesn't look like one he's had before. He's had his MMR first one... Bit worried, and not sure if we need to push for an urgent appt at the surgery - otherwise I expect we'll be given one much later today, or tomorrow... anyone know what this might be? or at least tell me it doesn't sound like measles!

i would always get a rash checked out especially if he is not prone to them

if your GP thinks it is measles they will swab him to check as it is a public health issue

whatever it is hope he is on the mend soon

thank you - it's more the fact getting appts at our surgery is not likely to be quick, but will try to impress how worried I am - mind you they won't be able to do anything will they? which is why i haven't taken him yet...

very worried as apparently there is an outbreak of measles in our local area - we had letters through the post suggesting doing the second MMR early but he hasn't had his yet...

i would take him - tell the receptionist you are worried it is measles especially as you have been informed there is an increase locally

the GP will want to swab him

if nothing else it may also rule out measles

thank you - will do - just got to wait till 8.30! thanks

herbietea - kind of did, but not as concentrated on his fac. Anyway back from doc and it's not measles just a rash from the virus and that he's got a very nasty ear infection, poor mite. Weird thing is, he's had ear infections before and not been anything like this. All the lymph nodes on his neck are really swollen, she said it's obviously been a really nasty virus and he's probably coming out the other side but has now got the ear infection.

weegle, dd and ds have got a viral infection, think its roseola or roseoca, (google it) they bothe very spoty backs and ummies and plenty of spots crawling along their am=rms and thighs and cheeeks! small red almost goosepimply spotsm=, high temp, dd had bout of the trots before the rash. we went to gp and they adv no need for antibiotics, just calpol and it will sort itself out?

rubyslippers · 16/03/2009 14:33
