Blocked nose 6 week old - any suggestions?

It's very very blocked, real trouble breathing, I've tried saline drops, squirting breast milk up there (it was recommended) and a nasal spray. Do those suction things work (nasal aspirators?)

He's losing a lot of sleep, particularly because it's worse at night.

Any ideas?????

Snot catchers Nasal aspirators do work to a certain extent. I find using them quite satisfying actually!

They won't clear the cold, but they will help remove some of the snot.

Thanks lowrib - which one do you have? There seem to be lots of different systems/designs...

We always used a saline nasal spray when ours were tiny - worked reasonably well - much better than drops, although they did hate it.

Make a little cone with a cotton wool, dip it in saline water (bought at the chemist), then slowly put the little cotton wool in your DS nose (very carefully) and turn gently the cotton wool... when you take the cotton wool out, most of the snot should come out!! It is the way my sister in France showed me, she was told by her midwife and it does work! But be very very gentle and don't put the cotton wool too far in... Our DD used to love it but then my nephew was never too impressed by it!!!
I hope your little one PEMP get better soon..

This will make you reel in horror but I have actually sucked the snot out of DS's nose when he was a few weeks old and couldn't breathe properly. Worked very well.
Or you could do like one of my friends did and sit with him in bathroom with shower on to make it steamy, which she said helped her DC.

definitely, shooflypie, put your baby in the bouncer in bathroom, get everyone to have their showers - the steam will work wonders and it's v gentle for such a young baby.

I didn't know there were different types (must investigate!). I just got the one my local chemist has.

It looks like the one on the left in this picture
