Chicken pox, temp & spots around bum????

Hi all

I'm confused..... My son's nursery has had two cases of confirmed chickenpox this week. DS got sent home yesterday with a temp of 39.4. He seemed absolutley fine in himself, and but had a restless night.

This morning he seemed fine. No spots, but the high temp has returned...When I changed his nappy todya I noticed about a dozen red spots around his bum which don't look like nappy rash.

Does this sound like the start of Chickenpox? DS has had Hand Foot & Mouth before but this doesn't seem like this either....

The only other thing, that is bugging me is I've started to reduce his formula and replace it with cows milk - but you don't get a temp of 39.4 with an intolerance do you????

Any thoughts gratefully received,

Thanks
sallypoo

Could be chicken pox, are they spots or blisters?

Sallypoo · 14/03/2009 07:29

Hi Scrooged,

Went to bed early! The are red, and appear to have a white top to them this morning.... They're covered in sudacreme and DS isn't that keen on me going near them... The red bum has gone down over night which is a bit of a relief.

Still don't know what to think though. No spots anywhere else yet.

Give it another 24 hours and you may find that more spots appear. DD2 had 2 on her back for about a day before any others appeared - and she had lots down there too but they all took ages to come out. They tend to come in clusters.

Chicken pox normally spreads like wildfire so it doesn't sound as though it's this. It could just be a rash? The nappy area is bad for rashes because it's so damp.

Hi all

Thanks so much for responding.

At bath tonight I found some tiny little spots on the backs of his ears, near his neck and on his back. Can't be sure, but think one of the ear spots had a 'head' to it, so could be chickenpox....

Bum still bad. back to the bright red hole, with spots around it. When he had Hand Foot and Mouth, his bum took a battering too, so maybe he's prone to it?

I've checked out lots of photos on the net tonight. Not scarlet fever, M, or measles... have seen photos of the most frightening case of Chicken pox and wouldn't wish it on anyone.....

Anyway, off to bed now, as I suspect I'm in for another restless night. I'll let you know has it's developed in the morning....

yeap does sound like it, hope you get a better nights sleep than I did with dd, I think the bum is the worst but she was still in nappies at the time I plastered her in calamine cream

Yip fraid to say this does sound like the dreaded pox,my twins have just gotten over them, taking them 10 days apart,we just started to recover from dt2 having them when dt1 took them !!
They both had loads in the nappy area, the heat there brings them out quickly, then they started to appear on the trunk, neck and head dt1 Abby had millions, check out my profile pics for a picture of her with them inot her 2nd or 3rd day.We found bathing them in oilatum and covering them in aveeno cream or aloe vera gel worked wonders for the itching and taking the heat out of them.
