Question about colds and eyes

Have got ds(6) off today from school with a pretty heavy cold and hacking chesty cough(first cold in well over a year).Cough started 2 days ago but cold came out last night.

His left eye lid is swollen this morning, his eye slightly bloodshot but not crusting or discharge (yet).

Is it common to get conjunctivitis with a heavy cold? or if he has a some sort of eye infection would he of picked that up seperately.

Ta

I think you can get conjuntivitis from transferring the cold germs from your nose or mouth to your eyes, so yes it's reasonably common, but not inevitable if you can keep your hands very clean and/or away from your eyes.
