How do I go about getting the separate jabs instead of MMR for dd?

Do I approach the GP or do I organise it myself and then inform the GP? If I organise it myself how do I find a reputable private clinic?
Ds was very poorly with atypical TB (was suspected to be lymphoma for a few weeks - absolutely terrifying) after his MMR and I believe his immune system may have coped better with it if he hadn't had the MMR the week before he became ill. Am therefore very nervous about the idea of dd having the triple vaccination so want her to have hers separately.

If you contact the organisation JABS (on web) (which is anti vaccination entirely - but don't let that put you off) I am sure there is a link to a list of clinics that offer these. Remember that you will probabLy want seperate boosters too so that will be 6 seperate injections (so quite costly.)Out of interest where are you - I am in Essex and can recommend clinic if you are near.

I'm in Surrey and know of two clinics. DD has just had her measles jab.

Where do you live? We had them done in the Breakspear clinic in Hemel Hempstead.

Just to say haven't been to Breakspear but know that that one is well considered too.

One is in New Malden and the other is in Croydon. I used the Croydon one as the New Malden one only does jabs every so often - 24th April was their next clinic and I didn't want to wait that long.

The bloke we went to is in Colchester but holds a clinic in Norwich (luck for us we moved from suffolk to norfolk halfway through)

Was told needed booster and our chap wouldnt do just one or two vaccines you had to have all three

you mean all 2 seperate jabs and then repeated?

That is what we were going to do (before single mumphs jabs stopped).

Mumps jab unavailable atm. Should be available again.

Where we had dd's done suggest a blood test to check immunity before deciding on the booster and they do not insist on all of the jabs though they do recommend them.

Do you really think so ShowofHands? I can't find anyone who can tell me for sure when that might be.

The clinic we used couldn't say when but were pretty sure it would be manufactured again. It's all guesswork I suppose.

We used Sameday Doctor in Basingstoke (but they have clinics all over). Can purchase only jabs you want, so DD has only had measles. She will have Rubella at puberty and no Mumps (just as well with no current stocks!). Not sure about boosters, have heard opinions both ways as to whether needed, can get antibodies tested, but suspect we'll just get another measles jab around pre-school.

Forgot to say we were being hassled by GP about getting MMR, so I wrote a letter to decline it, but did mention we were getting single measles. Sameday Doctor filled in her red book and gave a certificate about the exact vaccination she had.

Please dont think that you do not need a mumps vacc for a girl. It can affect the ovaries in the same way it can affect the testes of a boy.

Merck will not be making mumphs vac for at least the next 2 years

some doubt if will ever make it again so please factor this in to to next decision - although apparently if Merck stop doing ths then the patent can be used by other companies.

On this basis the clinic we go to has stopped offering seperate mmr vaccines at all!

When is the danger time for mumphs if a girl - around teenage years - as is the risk with boys?

Are there any really BAD risks with mumphs such as brain inflammation etc?

Well I've just spoken to our clinic about DD's rubella and they were saying that Merck are starting production again in September (09). Who knows what the real story is?

How do they know? Apparently their website says 2 years.

Just spoke to Merck in states - no plans to do anything for 2 years and then intend to start again if there is production capability and call for it (i.e. a big get out).

Incidentally they have stoped production of all their mono vaccines - not just mumphs (also measles and rubella)
