Ds failed hearing test at school

My ds (nearly 5) had a hearing test at school and failed! They are not concerned and just want to re-test next term.

He can hear but I think he has excessive wax and his ears are blocked (he has had some nasty colds over the past few months).

My question is are there any drops I can get that will help to unblock them/loosen the wax etc. Could I just pop a few drops of warm olive oil in his ears. Obviously I am not going to get the cotton buds out.

Anyone had similar probs?

Thanks

I think it is worth going to the gp for advice. He may have glue ear - very common at this age and often the result of build up of mucus due to colds and infections over the winter. Most cases clear spontaneously which is why they will retest but it can linger and cause longer term problems. Have you or school noticed any loss of attention or change in behaviour recently ?
