DD with toothache, what should I do?

DD2 woke me this morning crying with toothache. During the morning she has been mentioning it on and off. She stops crying when she is curled up with me.

I have given her a little calpol and she has a hotwater bottle on her face, I KNOW from past experience if I ring the emergency dentist that they will have run out of appointments by now, is there anything else I can do to ease her discomfort before we get to the dentist first thing in the morning?

She is 6 by the way.

bonjela or calgel are really good for toothache and keep her topped up with calpol. Toothache is horrible - im sure your dentist will see her but if there is no tooth to come out, abscess to drain, they wont be able to do much i guess.

emergency dentist, give her some ibuprofen in the mean time. You can get hold of the emergency dentist through NHS direct.

I'd say calpol or children's neurofen to take away the pain and see the dentist a.s.a.p.

you could phone your local hospital as they have emergency dentists there too - I'm sure they'd see a child today

This happened to my ds, please take the hot water bottle away as i am sure it was advised not to put anything hot as it would not help, the advice was to hold a cold flannel to the face, i would try to see an emergency dentist cause toothache is the worst.

In fact the advice was to wet the flannel squeeze it out and put it in the fridge for half an hour then hold it to the face, i did this and whilst ds held the one flannel to his face i had another in the fridge ready for when the other one had heated up to much.

I have really bad toothache myself today and it is awful. The thing I have found excellent for short term pain releif is to rub DDs teething powder on my gums. Doesn't work for more than half an hour but it goes from agony to just an annoying pain so really worth while having it. I am interested to know about the hot water bottle thing as I was about to try the same thing but now worried incase it makes things worse.
