Could it still be chickenpox with only 10 spots and no other symptoms?

We've not been exposed to chickenpox that I'm aware of, but obviously we may have been.

Ds is absolutely fine. Quite chipper really.

I thought he had 6 mosquito bites on his head. And 2 on his neck. And, err, two on his arm.

Have just compared with photos of dd when she had chicken pox and the spots look the same.

But they could still be mozzie bites.

He's not ill.

Should I not go to toddler group tomorrow?

What do you think?

I think you should be cautious - but will not know for sure what is wrong until you see how the spots change over the next couple of days. If they do not blister in the next 3 days (and probably multiply!) then i don't think it was chickenpox. It can be hard to tell on day 1. Some children have what looks like a heavy cold before the spots come out.

My DD3 only hade 7 spots when she had chicken pox. No other symptoms.

cluckyagain · 07/03/2009 15:35

Get a torch and shine it on them from the side - you should clearly see a totally clear blister on top of cp spots. If red or pus filled it's not cp. x

Phooey. I wanted people to say "oh no that's DEFINITELY not chicken pox" .

I shall do the torch thing. I shall exercise caution. I shall probably not go to toddlers tomorrow.

Is his sister contagious if he does have it? She's already had it. Can she still go to nursery?

If she's had it then she can go to nursery. Most kids get it sometime. It might be better if it is chickenpox - he seems to be quite happy.

SlightlyMadScotland · 07/03/2009 17:49

Whether she has had it or not she can go to nusery. They don't need to be quarantined "just in case". Although they are actually more contagious before spots come out.
