ds is 3.5, was admitted to hosp a few weeks ago with tummy pain just under breastbone, temp that wouldn't come down and looked ill, blood in urine but no infection and x-ray showed a lot of poo in bowel even though he'd been twice that day and goes everyday.

they said it was a virus and he was out within 48 hrs as i was able to let them know each time his temp was going up and he had paracetamol.

he was previously admitted with a sore foot/toe last easter and refusing to walk/weightbear this they said was infection that could have came from anywhere i,e throat/ ear, as the skin was intact on foot, given ant-b and discharged, they couldnt explain why he had the exact same symptoms 6 weeks before as they stated that an infection wouldn't take that long to show yet i carried him to gp on that ocassion as again he was refusing to weightbear.

i felt at time it wasn't an infection but in the absence of anything else had to let it go.

he still complains on and off about a sore toe, sometimes waking crying in night.very confident it's not to get in beside us as he has never slept in our bed nor would he want to, has always slept well.

he is very pale and is complaining of the sore tummy again, pressing his hand into his sternum and bending over, no-one asks himabout it or makes a fuss.

no explaintion was given for the blood in urine, he's had bloods taken that have came back normal but is still mentioning this sore tummy and on ocassion sore toe, has just got over slapped cheek and I'm concerned there is something more underlying with him but nothing is coming up in tests so far, I would like to think I'm not a nuerotic mother, he hadn't even been to gp until he was 2 as he was well and now this in the last year.

I'm hoping that it's just been rotten luck with him but have this niggle that there is something more to it

going back to gp next week,(feel like I'm never away at moment) to discuss results and I will say he's been complaining of the sore tummy again.

Guess I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts/ experience/ suggestions about possible reasons and what if anything I can do, am 31 weeks pg and this morning when he said about the sore tummy again i could have cried, took him to nursery anyway and he was quite clingy today which again isn't like him, i know the baby coming may be having an effect on him but most of these things pre date that anyway.

thank you so much if you read all this and any ideas would be gratefully received, even if it's to say I am being nuerotic! just at my wits end really what his going on with my child

I don't think yo'ure being neurotic

I do think that 3 yr olds find it hard to describe physical sensations sometimes, and dd1 used to try to explain how she felt, when she felt unwell, in terms of what she'd already experienced. So is it possible that your ds is feeling ill (could easily have picked up another of this winter's endless bugs!) and its reminding him of his last illness??

Just a thought...I can understand why yo'ure linking them all together, and maybe there's a medical explanation for that, but equally maybe there isn't and they are separate issues.

Its awful being pg and worrying about your LO, I really hope he's ok soon and/or you get to the bottom of it.

ps if it carries on, I think in your shoes I would push the GP for a referral to a paediatrician....trust yourself, if yo'ure worried you and your ds deserve to be seen.

thank you elibean, yes it could be that there is no link,(hopefully) and maybe I'm finding it difficult as he was so healthy and well before so am thinking too deeply about it, it's probably as I just wasn't convinced last easter that it was an infection in his foot, it was just a deep down doubt but I let it go.

never know he may get over this and be fit and healthy for years and I'll wonder what my concern was

I will push for that if I need to and thank you for responding

Hi nicsnigsnags.

Do you recon the build up of poo that showed up on x-ray could be constipation.

DS could have a Urinary tract infection as this can start off with constipation.

Bacteria getting into the kidneys, bladder or urethra is the common cause. So I would seek another opinion as They may have missed a kidney infection, as he is in pain.

Take a look on the NHS Choice website under child health, then under UTI.

Hi Mumnanny

just wanted to say thank you for your reply, haven't been able to use computer for while as been in hospital myself! I have a referral going in to see paediatrition so hopefully that will finally clear things up, think you might be right though, i suspect something did show and hasn't been communicated from a&e to ward as symptoms continue for him.

thanks again
