Baby DS seems really ill, dr appointement later help me explain this coherantly to dr

as i have had no sleep

i have ongoing concerns about ds and constipation, he wont poo for days then is obv in pain and straining then has two day of constant shg, he is in one of his two poo days (this happened two times prev and he has been mildly unwell both times)

he is currently warm, in and out of sleep all day, clingy, whingingy not wanting food at all and barely bfing

he looks ill, flushed and that horrible spaced out eye look

You should write it down:

-Goes ...... many days without pooing
-Then two days of constant pooing which seems to make him unwell
-Unusually warm and flushed(take his temperature)
-Unusually sleepy
-Lack of appeptite
-Not breastfeeding as much as usual
-Clingy, whingy and generally ill with spaced out look.

Sounds coherent enough to me! Has he got a temperature now?
How old is he?
Hope he Gp has some answers.

Also describe his poo:
is it hard? soft?
Does he have tummy ache/swollen tummy.

will write it down, it just seems so hard especially in an emergency appointement to get it across

this has been going on a bit and i get fobbed off as he looks fine am taking him today as he looks ill iyswim

i have been holding him while mning and he had whined and whined then done a loud squirty poo

how solid should his poo be? i log shaped ok?
it can be pliable like playdough?
he is 11 months was fine pre weaning, only pooed once a week but bf baby korma stuff

Poo can be very soft if they've been constipated for a while, if i remember well

It might not be constipation either. It may be witholding. If he associates pooing with pain, from just one episode of soreness then he'll hold on until he can't hold on anymore and it will then keep coming until he holds on successfully again. Just had 3 months of this and lactulose was needed to sort it.

The straining, red face, grunting and squealing wasn't her trying to go. It was her trying not to.

If it's been going on a while, tell them that. Say exactly how long it's been going on for.

Ask if it could be related to diet.

Is he putting on weight? Developing well?

DD had/ has constipation from about the age of 21 months until, well, even now really although it's getting better.

A lot of what you're describing sounds very much like her - doesn't poo for several days, then it all comes at once (basically because once constipation has started, the muscles in the rectum get stretched and can accumulate more but find it harder to push out - when it does come out it comes out in until it empties and then the process starts again). Also tired, narky, doesn't want to eat, trouble sleeping. Really because her tummy hurts quite a bit on and off. It's really sad watching them struggle because it cerainly causes them pain.

Our doctors were pretty unsympathetic because it's not actively serious and just advised laxatives (which we've given her and which certainly improve things). In the end, we got a private appointment and were told that the most likely cause was diet, and an allergy to milk or eggs. We've cut both out and she's miles better now.

May not be this of course, but sounds a bit like it.

well saw gp who agreed that ds has high temp and is clearly unwell

but could see no cause for temp (he did ears, mouth, throat check)
he said tummy was soft and so doesnt think he is constipated

has prescribed pain meds and antibiotics overnight, said he was treating blind but as ds appeared so poorly wanted to try antibiotics

Glad the GP checked him thoroughly. See how he goes, but if these problems are ongoing, I would consider asking for a referral to a paediatrician.
