Sore vulva

I'm not having much fun googling about this.

Dd has a very sore and inflamed vulva.

Is it likely to be just from not blotting properly after weeing? (She insists she wants to do it herself).

Could it be thrush or a UTI?

I've put metanium on, and she said that soothed it.

Is there anything I need to look out for or be careful of? Should I pop her to the doc tomorrow if not cleared up?

I wouldn't think it was a UTI if metanium soothes it. In fact, even thrush is not soothed by anything other than canesten ime

I don't know what it might be though. If she were mine, I would wait and see what tomorrow brings.

I think a trip to the doc's would be best. I remember having very bad thrush once as a girl and getting very sore and swollen. My mum took me to the doc's who was lovely and said it is quite common even in youngsters, especially in winter when you're more wrapped up, wearing tights etc. It may not be that, but always best to know either way.

Have just been searching on MN and found a thread of yours along similar lines DG, so am now armed with what to look out for re thrush, threadworm, bubblebath, not wiping properly and all sorts.

Will see how we do tomorrow.

Don't know what age your dd is but mine aged 3.5 complains interittantly about sore wees and normally has a slightly inflamed reddened labia.

I have usually put this down to poor hygiene not wiping front to back etc, and encouraged her to incrase her water/ fluid intake and like you applied cream, the symptoms normally resolve after 24-48 hours without meds,

I've never had thrush so don't know a thing about it. Will pop her down tomorrow if not completely better.

No tights here though - was 37 degrees today.

when my dd had this, i bathed her with a little cold water, and made sure she was 'clean' iyswim. i didn't go mad. maybe go to docs tomorrow if reddness hasn't gone down?

Assuming thrush has the same symptoms in children as in adults (?) I can tell you that the main symptom is intense itchiness. Soreness might come later, but itchiness would be the first (and abiding) sensation I would associate with thrush. .

it could be a uti, it could be thrush (with thrush i think you will see white discharge). Could just be that she isn't wiping properly.

Does she drink enough water? Might be making her wee strong?
