Do I really need those Calpol ear thermomter probe covers?

I have used the last one and it says you need to use them to ensure proper readings. I don't know where to buy them but I'm also thinking, are they really necessary? Any advice, thanks!

I think it does mess up the readings if you don't use one - they are different anyway.

I always used them more than once though.

Agree with Soupy. The readings are different. but re-use them.

I don't have any left and can't see them in Boots- where can I buy new ones?

Mine won't work without them.

Which is a pain, as dd2 likes to surreptitiously pull them off and play with them

No idea where to get spares though, good question..

have NEVER used them and only once found that the insert/read bit was so ear waxy that the temp reading was ludicrously low (was that tmi? )

Seona1973 · 27/02/2009 22:38

I got spares in the local Lloyds pharmacy

MrsMerryHenry · 27/02/2009 22:43

Boots do spares. They're quite expensive but you can reuse them loads of times.

Probably a bit late for some of you but you can get these covers on ebay. Brand new boxed. Excellent service and cheaper than having to buy yet another thermometer! you need to search for digital thermometer ear probe covers. took me ages to find them but now I have I use the supplier all the time. hope this may help

Hi, if anyone else stumbles on this thread... The Calpol branded thermometer is made by a company called Microlife (check inside the battery compartment) so a search for "MICROLIFE PROBE COVERS" on Amazon or whatever should get you what you need. £5 for 40 covers and as others have said they can be re-used a few times.
