Is my 4 month old constipated?

My 4 month old is bottle-fed. He has been having 1 stool in the morning for the past 1.5 months or more. Yesterday he passed stool much later than normal and today he has not even had a stool.

Should I be concerned? Is it just a change in pattern or could he be constipated? What are the signs of constipation in bottle fed babies?

Well if your baby was breastfed I would say NO as my own son has gone up to 10 days, and this is normal for Breast fed babys. I would not consider it to be consptipation unless it is accompanied by pain or straining. Babies often change thier stooling pattern as they get older or if they have a growth spurt. However, sometimes the iron in Formula can make them constipated, but if has been fine so far I dont see why. Babies dont have to go every day. I would look out for pain, drawing knees to stomach. If he has not gone by monday you might want to take him to the GP, I would avoid giving him anything to make him poo at the moment as he is very young.

Thanks - he hasn't been straining or anything either. He has been vomitting his milk though today, for some odd reason. Normally he doesn't spit up.

Will probably need to visit the GP on Monday.
