Hi, DD (6ys) has a stomach bug. Been vomiting since thurs 2am, and still no signs of letting up. No diarrhoea. She is drinking but bringing loads back up. Not eating. Most webpages say 24hrs for symptoms to last but it now over 48hrs.

any tips

Norovirus symptoms can last for at least 48 hours. Have you tried giving fluid on a teaspoon, waiting 30 minutes then giving another teaspoonful? If she can't even keep that down I think it might be worth ringing out-of-hours for advice.

DD had this a couple of weeks ago. Started lunchtime on the Monday and she was still unwell until Saturday. She didn't really have diarrhoea either - I guess because she wasn't eating. The main vomiting stopped after a coule of days as I stopped giving her milk. I didn't bother with the GP as I didn't want to risk spreading the bug at the surgery but I did call NHS Direct on the Thursday just to check that her still being unwell was normal.

Meanwhile DH got a bug last weekend. He had D&V frequently for around 24 hours but was feeling rough for a couple of days before and afterwards and slept lots. Fingers crossed, I seem to avoided catching it at all.

we are on year six of this bug. norovirus.(norwalk virus from ohio USA 1968 I think)
I think they can reinfect themselves. I have three DD they have all come though this years bout quickly you catch it though the eyes mouth or nose. From vomit or poo. You can avoid it if they dont vomit on you and you wash your hand well. It can live on surfaces keep bathrooms really clean. bleach kills it. Dont bath together. I showered them good game and a great way to get the vomit off etc.Hubby is just dying this year.(face rubber and bath sharer, not all together just after) The sipping of water was really useful, three sips and then every 3 mins, nothing to eat for 24 hours after vommiting then, no dairy, fruit, then clear (cicken) soup, soya yog, Soya drinks plain rice, dry toast crackers dry stuff and anti virus stuff, I made loads of chicken soup etc Hot water bottle on tum. And drugged every one at night early nights and fresh air.

she is still vomiting loads back up but has been peeing a decent amount every 3-4 hrs so cannot be too dehydrated. Must be keeping some down

I had it last tues but only last 24hrs. The ward i did a shift on last weekend is closed, so know where I got it from.

My DD has been off colour and a bit sick since Monday, threw up constantly for last two days, is now not being sick but just sleeping all the time, it's quite a nasty one I think
