Constantly Constipated 12 wo DS

My 12wo son was diagnosed as having reflux after initial suspicians were much worse. As a treatment he was prescribed Gaviscon which caused severe constipation. I was then advised by my gp and a Consultant to stop the gaviscon as he ended up in hospital due to severe pain and crying with the constipation.

Anyway, tcalss, 10 days ago the doctor gave him a suppositary laxative which worked, he then didn't open his bowels again so 5 days ago we gave him another suppository which worked and cleared about two weeks worth (all watery - none hard) and today - 5 days later - he still hasn't been since, despite me giving him plenty of water inbetween feeds and also now water with sugar. He can't take lactulose as he coughs and splutters it all out.

He is in obvious pain and strains quite a lot, going red in the face but really struggles to open his bowels. When he does though it is always watery, never hard which I would have thought would have been easy to pass. He also struggles with trapped wind and an early xray of his stomach did show a lot of gas in there.

I would love to hear from anyone with any advice or similar situations please.

My ds had bad reflux. I was given gaviscon by gp and told to use it for the duration of time ds was having formula, I said no, not giving it for a whole year, do something else so consultant we saw at hospial prescribed Enfamil A.R. and ds showed an instant improvement.
He also at one stage got badly constipated and we were given a prescription for suppositaries but I was told to administer them twice a day for 3 days, I did that and he was fine.

Thank you littleboysblue, after a horrendous night of him being extremely uncomfortable we gave him a suppositary which eased his discomfort a bit and then after giving him brown sugar with water before each feed he has thankfully opened his bowels twice today. Hopefully he will be a lot more settled tonight and i'll give him some more sugar and water tomorrow and hopefully he will become more regular. Poor little things it is so awful to see them in pain.
