Single mumps - specific question (not debate)

violetsareblue · 17/02/2009 17:06

DS (9) and DD (3) have both had single measles jab but we decided to leave the single mumps jab until they were older - pre-puberty.

Please can those who have made the same decision let me know at what age DCs were eventually vaccinated.

Many thanks.

Thinking about maybe doing the same. Where did you get the measles jab done? Were you happy with them?

mrsnoname · 17/02/2009 20:53

also interested to hear the answers to this qs.
We were thinking to vaccinate around the age of 10+ by the way.

DD is about to have her measles jab this week (13 months) so am interested so see when people are getting mumps done. The clinic is telling me 6-12 weeks after the measles but it still seems a bit close together to me.

ABetaDad · 17/02/2009 20:55

We did the single rubella first then the other two sequentially (cannot remember which order) about 3 - 6 months apart when the kids were about 3-4 yrs old.

Eyeballsinthesky
our clinic recommends ideally a year between jabs, but the minimum of 6 months!

EyeballsintheSky · 17/02/2009 21:04

That sounds more like it mrsnoname. There's not so much rush with the others are there? I didn't want her to be without the measles vaccine for too long but I think the others can wait a bit longer.

violetsareblue, have not done it yet but am planning on getting my boys done at about 10 yrs old presuming they haven't had any of the diseases naturally by then.

mrsnoname · 17/02/2009 21:14

Agree Eyesballs and so did our consultant - we won't vaccinate our DC (rubella and mumps) until they are 10+ now. And should they get them naturally before then, we will just do an immunity test for them when they are teenagers.

violetsareblue · 18/02/2009 08:47

racingsnake - yes we were happy with the measles jabs. I'll dig out the details later and let you know where we had them done.

thisisyesterday and mrsnoname - that's a great help, you both suggesting age 10+. DS is 10 in September and I have been thinking for some months that he should have the mumps jab shortly.

Thanks everyone for responding.

I shall also be vaccinating against mumps at puberty (well, before duh!) rather than when they are toddlers. Am after a single measles now for DS and shall do DD at puberty for Rubella. Has anyone had the "advice" of a doctor on this method?

EyeballsintheSky · 19/02/2009 22:16

Well DD had her measles jab today and they told me they'd be in touch in 12 weeks for the next one. That's what they think...
