Ds is 6mths & has had 3 patches of eczema on his chest for a while now. he also has cradle cap. The eczema patches have started, weeping, have spread all over his body & for the first time today he has been itching. this seems to have come with teething. today, his cheeks have been redder & hotter than before.
i just wondered if teething could aggrevate eczema or whether its just a coincidence!

I would say it's probably just a coincidence, but weird things do happen when they're teething. We were on holiday and dds wee started smelling very strongly of onions and she had a really high temperature for a few days. all teeth!
I wouldn't rule anything out.

i think there is a link, my dd had excema quite badly for her first year (all cleared up now), and at her worst was also when she was teething. This weekshe has just got her eye teeth and i can see that her excema has flared up a bit - could be coincidence, but it does seem linked to me .... (or as you say it does seem to aggravate it)

maybe it's cos they can get generally a bit poorly with teething anyway... temp and so on and so that exacerbates it?/

I'm posting because it's an interesting thread. DS now 8 months has eczema. At around 6 months it flared up, his cheeks went red and they started weeping. He also started scratching his cheeks. So similar in some ways to the OP. However, we still have no teeth! It has become a bit of a family joke: "Oh, he must be teething" when there is no visible end result.

thanks 4 the replies. his cheeks are now really dry & chapped. it upsets me because it must be awful for him. hes started to itch it more now! i'm wondering now if he might be allergic to our cat. does anyone know how we could find that out?!

Dont know about the pet allergy testing. When my DS's cheeks first flared at 6 months it coincided with us starting solids, so that was my theory although my GP thinks that was me being neurotic.

If the eczema is weeping then it is infected and needs treating with an antibiotic cream -- see your GP asap.

DS's eczema can seem a little worse when he is teething, although there are quite a few things which aggravate it.

Your best bet for allergy testing is to get your GP to refer you to an allergy specialist.
