How fast would you say it is? I think up to 180 bpm is considered normal for small children.

Definitely see the doctor if you are worried - but how high fever and how fast is fast? Small children's hearts beat faster than adults, and at 18months over 100 could be pretty normal.

Suggest you take pulse and temperature then call doctor.

I took my Ds to docs last year when he was this age after he had high temps all weekend and his heart was racing so much that she couldn't take a reading and sent us straight to a & e. He was in for 5 days with unknown infection ( treated for meningitis ). I don't want to worry you but our babies are precious so don't hesitate in seeing the gp!

pulse was 118 but am sure reading was wrong...think higher..what is norm for 18 months?? anyone?

When DS was in hospital his frequently went up to about 175. The nurses had the monitor limits so it would beep if it went below 60 and above 180 so I presume anything in that range is nothing to worry about.

thank you for that - really appreciate this useful answer!!!!

thank you!
