Is vomiting usual in Chicken Pox?

My 3 year old DS has had his rash for 2 days now, has hardly eaten because his throat is inflamed/infected and has a nasty cough (although not all the time). He has been vomiting this evening and just wondered if this was usual?

Bless, its so horrible, isn't it? He was sobbing through the night because he kept catching the spots in his ears, although I think I was more upset, you just want to take their pain away........... only place he seems content at the moment is in the bath. Hes hardly eaten today but is having plenty of fluid so will just go with what he wants for now.

IME vomitting is not usually associated with chicken pox, but it could be related to the cough, as some children will cough themselves sick. Also Nurofen on empty stomach can make them vomit too.

DD2's pox were severe. I kept her covered 100% for for days running with Calpol and Nurofen (alternating each once every four hours as per paed advice) and also Piriton as well. You can safely use these three medicines together as advised by my GP.

It is awful, I know, and seems to go on forever. We had five bad days before she turned a corner and fever dropped.

Found the aquaeous cream with the calamine in it was better and easier to apply than the straight calamine. Echo above the bicarb in bath too.

On the bath front. Just want to say I got conflicting advice about plenty of baths and no baths. He had it last week and on Day 2 I put a slug of emollient in his bath, and then no baths after that till day 7. itching stopped overnight, no more calamine used. Spots dried up pronto.

Thought I'd just pass it on in case it works for anyone else.

Good luck with yours - it's heart breaking to watch them like that. And to cope with the temper that seems to accompany illness with mine.
