MMR - is there a deadline? DD's too poorly to have it I think, but starting to panic now... Please help!

Hi there,

DD is almost 15 months.

Shortly after her 1st birthday we went abroad for several weeks to visit in-laws, so we didn't do the MMR before then as to do it a few days before a long-haul trip didn't seem sensible. On our return it was pretty much Christmas.

She then started nursery at the beginning of January and since then has had a succession of nasty bugs - including conjunctivitis, an ear infection, several colds and a nasty cough. I thought she was finally well enough and was going to take her for her jabs this week, but now she's gone down with a humdinger of a cold/flu (as have I) and now I don't know what to do.

I want her to have the jabs, but my GP mentioned at my last visit that 15 months was the deadline; that's tuesday and I don't see her being well enough...

What do I do?

Please help/advise!!??

I'd take her and see what the gp suggests

I'm no expert but that sounds like codswallop to me. Do you have a number for your helath visitor team? Why don't you call and ask them in the morning

She can never get it, or she can get it X months from now, GP just trying to pressure you. They really shouldn't have MMR if obviously unwell otherwise (and I'm very pro-jabs in general). If they have it a bit later (16m+) they are more likely to get immunity, anyway.

dd1 didn't have hers until she was 17 months & dd2 hasn't had hers yet (2 years old next week), and won't actually.

however, if i took her to the docs and said I wanted the MMR, I reckon they'd book her in quick enough.

Both of my boys have had it at 5yo due to bad reactions to other jabs, plus their food allergies.

Do it when it is best for you and your DD

Don't know why the GP said there was a 'deadline'?? You can have the MMR at any age. They do it just after a year on the schedule because it is at that point immunity conferred from the mother starts to decline. There are lots of people on here who have had it delayed till their child was older. I very much believe in vaccinations but even I wouldn't give a child a jab when they're ill - who needs to make an already cross child even crosser? Plus if you are ill you shouldn't really be flogging around going to the surgery etc. I would ring and rebook for three weeks or so. Don't take any nonsense about the 'deadline' either.

Well bloody hell if that isn't a relief... Disappointed if GP was trying to put me under pressure - he's been the bood one so far. He might just be clueless about it - they leave it strictly to the nurses, it seems...
