Reassurance pls

Both me and my 5 month old DD have cold, but she's terrible, she's pale, constantly feels cold despite c/h on full whack and layers of clothes and blankets. Shes eating ok, but she's got a really horrible chesty cough. When she starts coughing she starts choaking and is sick. Shes eating and drinking water ok and is fairly perky in herself.

Other than snufflebabe is there anything I can give her - im worried it turns into a chest infection or worse. She's my first & DP away all wk so fretting a bit.

I think it would be a good idea to call your doctor and see if there is an appointment for this afternoon. You will feel so much better after someone else has had a look at her.
You don't have to worry about the doctor thinking you are making a fuss. I remember feeling exactly like you feel now and my doc said that no one expected me to be an expert on child health just because I had given birth and going along to the doctor was as much about building my confidence as a mother as it was about checking out the child.

agree totally with spudmasher. You're obviously worried, that's understandable, and you should take her to the GP.

Lose some of her layers - you don't want her overheating.

Coughing in babies - particularly when snotty - often leads to being sick. Very common, nothing to worry about.

It's just a case of riding it out, I'm afraid. I don't think there's anything much more you can do to prevent a chest infection, but she won't necessarily get one.

It's a good sign that she's eating ok, but don't be too concerned if she doesn't seem hungry for a day or two. Give her plenty to drink.

If she seems happy enough, isn't listless or having high fevers, she will be fine.

With the layers, I wouldn't worry too much if she is cold. But definately keep an eye on her as clattered is right about her overheating.

And definately go and see your gp. They always put babies on a priority, so you should get an appointment without a problem.

My ds had bronchitus (v. common in babies apparently) a while ago, and the common thing that they prescribe is amoxylin. it's an antibiotic that there's every chance you'll remember yourself - the yellow synthetic banana one. That certainly perked my ds up, and if it's a similar thing your dd has then it should help her too. don't worry if it does turn out so be something that sounds serious. Usually with the right meds it isn't.

She's with my mum today while im at work, and mum says she's not coughing as much and hasnt been sick since this morn, so il see how she is tonight and take her to Dr's if she has a bad night.
I think its worse for me than her, especially cos im at work and worrying, poor mums never had so many texts in one day!!

Just didnt want to go dashing to Drs and have them thinking I was totally mental.
