Weirdness in a 3 year old - Overdose?

DS2 has had mild upset tummy for about five days last week, going about 4 to 5 times a day for about 6 days, eating ok but not nice poos. It went for about 3 days and suddenly yesterday he said he had tummy ache and won't eat. He has NEVER stopped eating, even with a tummy bug, so its really weird. Yesterday about 4 hours before this happened he ate about 8 multivitamins (for children) so I thought it might be that as it said it might have a laxative effect. He slept all night and hasn't complained of anything this morning and seems ok, but only ate two mouthfuls of breakfast and a bite of banana. His nappy which is normally drenched so much it wets his pj's was almost dry this morning too. Could it be dehydration? We have had almost every bug going since October, but it seems a bit odd. Any ideas? Vitamins? Dehydration? Something else?

What did it say on the multivitamins about overdose? An iron overdose can be serious - did they have iron in?

I would go to the doc ASAP or ring NHS direct.

Without googling for you I know offhand that vitamins can be overdosed on particularly iron which can be harmful in large quantities. 8 tablets is a lot - my children take a multivitamin ( when I can remember) where the daily dose is one tablet for 4 yr old per day ( you talk about ds having a nappy so assume he is around the same age and tis a night nappy although maybe younger). The bottle does contain a warning overdose. 8 tablets of my children's multi would therefore be a significant overdose at that age and I probably would have nipped to A and E to make sure all ok and no stomach pump necessary.

As your ds is now ok I would'nt to to A and E but I would keep an eye and possibly google /find out/call NHS direct about after effects of possible overdose as may be more long term effect than immediate.

Hope all goes well .

Def phone NHS Direct, but I am sure you lo will be ok.
My friend has to take super-strong iron tablets at the moment for a health realted problem and she was told that she couldn't possibly overdose on iron if she were to take multi-vits as they deliberately keep the dosage small so that this is unlikely happen.
8 tablets is quite a lot, but not loads.
