My dd 3.9 has been to hospital today to supposdely have a 24 hour eeg, she was given sedation which she had a reaction to which made her violent and well just awful really, needless to say they couldnt get near her to fix electrodes. Just wondering if anyone had any experience of what will happen next if they cant get a 24 hour eeg to obtain a diagnosis of occipital epilepsy? I am really just wanting my daughter better x

We had an experience similar to yours our son was sedated to have a scan done on his heart he reacted like your daughter although wore himself out and went to sleep so they done it in the end.
Is there a reason why she has to be sedated for the eeg? I ask as my ds has had quite a few eegs done and has never been sedated for any of them. He has epilepsy too.

They sedate her because she is scared to have it on and freaks out as soon as she sees it,plus the 24 hr one they have to glue in and they use like a little arhbrush thing that does look quite scary. Do you know if there is any other way they can get a diagnosis without eeg?

I'm sorry to hear that. What was said when they couldn't put it on? Also have you spoken to her dr/consultant/neurologist about what the next steps are?
Would they try again with a different sedative?
