A never ending cough......

DS (5) has had a heavy cold for about 10 days. He is perfectly ok in himself and not ill and happily skipping off to nursery every day. However night times are a bit of a nightmare cos the minute he goes to bed he starts coughing. So we:

have given him another pillow
Opened his window a tiny bit to let fresh air in
put a bowl of water in his room for humidity
put karvol on his bed clothes
Rubbed expectorant stuff on his chest and back
kept shares in cough mixture at an all time high

But he is still coughing constantly. Is sleeping a lot of the time but before I resort to ear plugs does anyone have any other suggestions to ease the dreaded 7.30pm?

Thanks Flo x

Oh dear, sounds like you're doing everything right. My DS has the same, and we're doing everything you're doing. The only thing I can suggest is something I just posted on another thread - real chicken soup. Apparently it eases chest infections. They've done studies on it with bronchitis and it was comparable effect to penicillin. Worth a try maybe? The link to one of the studies:-

And I use Drosera 30c homeopathic remedy for my son's night cough, and Echinaforce children's formula. But I realise that this makes me a total loon in many people's eyes
