11 Month old Vomiting & Diarrohea for 6 days

Okay, so I've already taken him to to the Doctors this week, he said to keep up fluids etc.

But he is having trouble keeping ANYTHING down, even water and milk. He also has chronic diarrohea. He's miserable and desperate for a drink all the time, but then even water is back up within 15 minutes.

I am a bit concerned now, we've all had the same bug but it lasted a few days in me and my hubby, and a day in DD who is 5.

I'm going to take him back to the Doctor's this morning, but does anyone have any advice or has anyone had a similar experience?

Get the doc to test his stool, if he has not done that already to rule out anything nasty like salmonella.

My DS had salmonella when he was 5 months old and luckily my Mum's doc was great and immediately tested. He was on antibiotics and was fine within a few days.

good luck at the docs, with babies you need to be careful they don't get dehydrated.

He might have developed a milk intolerace as a result of the bug. Your GP might suggest keeping him off milk and milk products for a few days to see if it helps his stomach to settle. Poor little mite, he must feel so miserable. I hope the GP can help.

How is he doing now? What did your doctor say?

We ended up in the hospital yesterday. My GP wasn't happy with the amount DS had been vomiting and he had abdo pain too.

The day unit were very good, they gave only Electrolade to try and get his fluid levels back up and wouldn't let us home until he had done a wee (which took all day, even after almost 16oz of fluid). We were there from 10am to 6pm.

Anyhoo, he hasn't been sick in nearly 24 hours now, he still has a bad botty but they aren't so worried abnout that. They have said to give only the Electrolade and fruit today, no dairy for a few days and he has open access if he starts being sick again.

I knew something was wrong when we saw the GP on Wednesday but they just don't listen to Mums do they? It's happened so many times.

Thanks for your replies!

what a shame. When my 2 wre babies at the first sign of continued vomiting and/or diahorea they used to give us sachets to replace lost fluids. do they not do this anymore? Seems like that would have saved you a trip to the hospital if they had. Hope he gets beter soon.

Sounds like he is on the mend, thank goodness. Glad you got decent advice from the hospital.
