I have a terrible fear when my dc get ill with coughs and colds due to our dd ending up in ICU when she was 5 weeks old .

Anyway I am trying to be calm and telling myself she is ok but I can feel the panic bubbling up .

She is 7 and has mild asthama she has had a bit of a nighttime and early morning cough for the past couple of days ,today she came out of school upset and said her throat hurt ,the teacher said she had complained of a sore throat during the afternoon.

I have given her calpol and inhalers and she seems ok she is coughing on and off sounds a bit chesty but it is not stopping her doing anything (she is upstairs drawing and has asked to go on the wii later on ) she has also told me she is hungry .

I am freaking not letting her see I am just quietly freaking out I hate anything to do with coughs and colds it frightens me .

She is chatty and happy though and has just told me her throat is still sore I asked if her chest hurt and she said only a tiny bit.

Come and tell me she is ok I know she is in all probability but just humour me please.

Remind yourself of all the times she's had a cold....and been fine.
Not doubt this will be more of the same.

I know its not the same but I panic frequently about DS getting lost. He has an alarming tendency to start playing hide and seek when we are out, and without telling you...

You don't sound like a loon at all....we all have our "thing" which we can't deal with.

Marne · 21/01/2009 16:50

you hugs and holding your hand

I have the same problem but with any illness (stomach bugs being the worse).
Both dd's have had this cold for a week now but they seem to be copping better than me

You don't sound like a loon.

i completely understand where you are coming form. My dd is nearly 7, long history of asthma type coughing (mainly at night for about the first 3 yr sof her life)

Despite just geting over a bad cough that lasted 3 weeks b4 xmas, and a tummy thing which finished oooooooooooooh yesterday.

today (last night in fact!!) we have the cough again.

i turn into a wreck, in her behalf. it's a very annoying dry cough cough cough that i can do nothing about. all we can do is ride it thru, yet
I think these coughs ARE really distressing not only to have but to hear aren't they. Broken sleep, cough, night fevers.

f ing great.

Does steam help her at all? I've spent many a night with a wheezy, asthmatic DD on my lap in a dark steamy bathroom. It's not fun is it.

how is she today?
