Karvol decongestant drops

Any tips on where to put the 'hanky' for maximum effect at night please? If I hang over the cot bar, he will get it, and so I am thinking of putting it on the carpet next to cot.

Pretty much anywhere in the room will do. If you go into a room where Karvol has been scattered the night before, the whole room still reeks of it (sometimes even the whole upstairs, or is that just me putting too much out?!)

What is stopping him sleeping? Blocked nose or coughing?

I put it on the back of my ds's bedclothes so he can't touch it but it's really close to him IYKWIM

I usually put in in a container with hot water the steam and oil combined help dd breathe better been doing that since she was a baby with stuffy nose or cough

I used to tie it to the bars of the cot somewhere it couldn't be reached (at the bottom).

Now my dd is 4 I put the cloth inside the pillow case.

I put directly onto Pillow/sheeting.

Sometimes even onto pyjamas. (Should I be doing that?)

Skay, that is ok for older children as long as you tell them not to touch it with their faces. If I have a blocked nose, I put it on a hankie and hold it right up to my nose but it stings like mad if it touches the skin directly (and makes your eyes water too).

dumbledoresgirl - it is really difficult to know if it is a very blocked nose or his teething pain stopping him sleeping. he is very snotty at the moment (no cough) and can hardly breath through his nose at night. he is desperate for sleep, and tries to sleep, falls asleep and then a few minutes later, wakes up crying and whimpering (almost crying whilst asleep), tries to get back to sleep and the cycle starts again. he is definitely teething (which is also why he has the snotty nose). dh thinks ds is in pain - we gave him calpol at half eleven last night. i am going to try with the karvol tonight, hopefully that'll work, but he may also be in pain. he's 14 mths and he normally sleeps so well.

I would guess he is in pain likessleep as having to breathe through the mouth because of a blocked nose does not ime usually make children wake up. But try the Karvol alongside Calpol by all means as it can be great for clearing blocked noses.

Have you tried a teething gel that you rub on the gums? We used to use Anbesol which actually came as a liquid you rubbed on. It was good for instant relief (so often got the child to the point where they could go to sleep), but obviously something like Calpol gives longer lasting relief.

thanks dumbledores. i haven't really used calpol before, so was just a little apprehensive, when i don't know for certain he is in pain.

but i agree that i think his constant sleeping/waking cycle probably is this. he is so sleepy that something is stopping him sleeping.

i am going to try the karvol anyway as a starting point tonight and if we still have the same with his unsettled sleep, we'll go for the kalpol again as well.
