My 16mnth old has just woken - v.wheezy and barking cough. No temp as such. If it's croup do I need to take him to A&E or can it wait until the morning ?????

Thanks. I'm sure my older son had it but god I'm scared. DH has just gone away for the weekend - typical.

If his ribs move and the notch at the top of the breastbone (bottom of the neck) shows when he breathes in, it's an A&E job. Otherwise, sit it out. Hope he feels better soon.

I would take him if he's wheezy. Try and keep him calm as if's worse if they are upset.

Another option would be to ring your out of hours doctor. The standard treatment for croup now seems to be oral steroids, if he does have croup they would be able to prescribe/sort this without you having to go to A&E.
