Conjunctivitis - general questions!

DS had a tiny bit of gunk in his eye last night. This morning it's a bit watery and bloodshot but not gunky. Does it sound like conjunctivitis? If it is - should I go to oncall doc today? What will they prescribe?

It might be conjunctivitis. They'll give him drops or ointment.

Are you still breastfeeding? (Him or another) Because a few drops of breast milk (yes, in the eye) clears these things up, and doesn't hurt, unlike the prescribed stuff.

How old? Mostly, bathing in cooled boiled water very frequently clears it up just as quick as drops/ointment do.

If your DS is a tiny baby it maybe that the tear ducts are blocked - often just because they are too small for the little bits of debris that are meant to get washed down them. Again, bathing in cooled boiled water and gentle massage on the sides of the nose is the most effective treatment.

If very red eyes/green stuff it may still be worth seeing the out of hours doc/nurse.

No he's 2.9. It just seems bloodshot now so maybe something just irritated it - it's only one eye. Thanks.
