Hello, i have twin girls who are nearly 6 months. They were born at 36 weeks and went into special care for 5 days as their stomachs were not mature enough for milk so they were tube fed. Long story short they have very bad diarreah - its now like water (greeny colour). Theyve had it more or less forever, doctors kept putting it down to them having what either i had, my husband had or my son had (viral infections). They have never been great eaters but then about 2 months ago it got really bad and basically were only taking about 1 bottle a day (its like they just didnt want it). We eventually got them referred to a peadiatrician. To look at you would think they are a picture of health (apart from one of them being a bit grumpy and cries more than other). Peaditrician thought i was a paranoid mum. She did send a stool sample off (which has come back clear) and told me to try Nutramigen milk (i think this is a luctose intolerant milk) - she said it was up to me if i wanted to try it. So i did. Basically there feeding picked up a little although still not great, i reckon they do about 3 bottles a day if you add it all up. Although their diarreah is worse than ever - its literally like greeny/yellow water and is now making their bums really sore and blistery. Nursery nurse came to weigh them today and they weigh exactly the same (just under 15lb). This is a bit more than a month ago. She witnessed a pooy nappy and said it wasnt right i should take them back to gp. She reconed it looked like undigested milk. After they have been fed you can actually hear the milk swooshing around in their stomachs up to 1 and a half hours after theyve fed, its like their stomachs are just not digesting it. Phoned gp again today but she is not back til tomorrow. Has anyone else experienced this? Im starting the think they let them out of special care too early. The drs just think im paranoid but surely this isnt right. Also - they take forever to have their bottle!!
